Sharpening Service

We offer a state-of-the-art sharpening service for our customers, local or otherwise.

Policy

Effective July 2022, due to overwhelming demand for our service after 44 years, we are no longer able to sharpen knives for customers who have not purchased from our store. If you have some knives from Seattle Cutlery, we will still be glad to sharpen your non-Seattle Cutlery knives as well if they are sent together.

Cost

The cost for sharpening knives NOT purchased from Seattle Cutlery is $2 per inch, measured by edge length.

The cost for knives purchased at Seattle Cutlery is subsidized to $1 per inch.

Each knife requiring repairs (e.g., large edge chips, bent or broken tip) will incur a $10 repair charge in addition to the sharpening cost.

Each batch of knives requiring return shipping, depending on weight, will incur a $5 to $15 shipping charge within the United States. International rates will vary.

Instructions for Local Sharpening

You can drop your knives off at our store at any time during business hours—there is no need for an appointment. We will contact you when your knives are ready, usually within 72 hours, after which you can pick them up at your convenience. Sharpening is done after hours, so we unfortunately cannot complete it while you wait.

When your knives are ready to be sharpened, please complete our printable sharpening form, which can be accessed here, and mail it with the knives to this address:

To keep both knives and mail handlers safe, we recommend wrapping the knives tightly in a large dish towel and securing the bundle with rubber bands at both ends, then packing it in a small box with plenty of padding. Your dish towel and any other reusable accessories will be returned to you.

Unless you have additional questions, there is no need to notify us before mailing your knives. After we receive them, we will assess them and send you an invoice by email. Once payment is completed, either via our secure online checkout or by calling us at (206)-441-8988, your knives will be processed for shipment back to you with tracking, usually within 72 hours.
