Nakiyo Silicon Carbide Flattening Stone

Silicon carbide, among the hardest known compounds, is the abrasive of choice for repairing sharpening stones, which can become dished after heavy use. Made from over a pound of cemented silicon carbide, our trusted flattener features deep grooves to rapidly carry away material removed from the worn sharpening stone. It can be used to flatten all sharpening stones except diamond plates.

Simply soak the sharpening stone in water to soften it, then rub the surfaces of the two stones against each other. We recommend marking the surface of the dished sharpening stone with a pencil—when the pencil marks are gone, you're all finished!
